About the Artist
I’m Janice Chae, a Korean-American digital artist currently based in Singapore. My work explores memory, identity, and cultural displacement through AI-assisted digital painting. I grew up between South Korea and the United States, and that in-between perspective deeply informs my practice.
I often combine traditional Korean visual elements—such as folk symbols and patterns—with Western art historical references and surreal digital textures. Tigers are a recurring motif in my work, depicted not as symbols of power but as quiet guardians of memory, space, and emotional resonance.
I use generative AI tools in collaboration with my own drawing and compositional process. The machine introduces unfamiliar shapes and patterns, which I refine and reinterpret through a personal lens. What begins as an algorithmic output often becomes an intimate, layered image rooted in cultural memory and personal narrative.
I am currently represented by Gallery T, one of South Korea’s leading contemporary art galleries. My practice aims to bridge technology and tradition, exploring how digital tools can help us reimagine collective and personal histories in quiet, visually rich ways.
